Class description


In this fun class for all levels of students, you will have the opportunity to create a unique piece. Each will have it's own personality with the materials you choose. We will do twining with a mix of natural materials such as Dracaena daco, split leaf sheaths and sea grass. The shape and size depends on where you want to take it.


The instructor will supply a craft-ready gourd base, twining materials and all supplies except those listed in the student's required supplies below.

Each student is required to bring the following items to class:

  • Scissors
  • Towel

About the instructor


Cookie Hanson is a well known California fiber artist who has been exploring basketry techniques since the 1970's. Primarily engaged in basket making, Cookie also explores the intersection of gourds and fiber, as well as free form sculpture using both traditional and natural materials. She is an active member of Bay Area Basket Makers, Los Angeles Basket Guild, Misty Washington Basket Guild, California Gourd Society (several patches) and manages a small school teaching gourd and basketry, Love Weaving Baskets ([email protected] ) in Seal Beach California.
