Class description
Make a beautiful necklace while learning the ancient art of Kumihimo, a Japanese braiding technique. Also learn to bead a gourd shard after decorating it with alcohol inks, fabric paints and rubs. Learn a myriad of techniques that you can later transfer to your gourd art such as a braided rim on a beaded gourd. A complete tutorial on using alcohol inks on gourds will be included while students will get to practice on several shards that can all be used as jewelry. Students will make one finished piece.
Students will receive and get to keep gourd shards, beads, needles, Kumihimo loom, satin cord, bails, artificial sinew, sand paper, and E6000 glue.
Students will have access to alcohol inks, gloves, scissors, paint brushes, q-tips, Scribbles paint, and acrylic paints.
What you are required to bring
Bring a small pair of scissors if possible, but not absolutely needed.
All materials and supplies will be furnished. Just come and enjoy!
About the instructor
I have been decorating and selling gourd art for 19 years. I have taught classes at the Welburn and Wuertz gourd festivals along with having a booth with my art for sale. I love bright colors in my work. My favorite gourd technique is beading.
