Colorful Gourd with Pendant

Class description

In this class you will use your choice of alcohol ink to create a rich, vibrant color on your gourd. You'll carve a gourd shard into the shape of a pendant and inlay a metal focal piece (your choice) in the pendant. You will also learn how to inlay leather cord around the gourd opening.

This class is for all levels of gourders.

I will supply almost everything you need for the class, including: 

• A 5 to 6 inch "class-ready" gourd
• A gourd shard for the pendant
• A metal focal piece for the pendant (there will be several styles to choose from)
• Alcohol Inks
• Black acrylic Paint
• Leather cord
• Spray fixative and sealer
• A written tutorial

What you are asked to bring

Each student is asked to bring the following items to class:

• A rotary tool (like Dremel) with your drill bits.
• (I will have inexpensive bits to sell if you don't have what you need.)
• Pencil and eraser
• A heat tool, or hair dryer
• Safety Glasses and Dust Mask are required.

NOTE: For those who do not have a rotary tool, I will bring 2 dremel tools that can be shared.

Class Cancellation Policy

If this class does not meet its minimum number of students by September 1st, the class will be cancelled, you will be contacted, and your registration fee will be refunded.

About the instructor

Patti Jo Newsom is an active member of the American Gourd Society, Co-founder and Co-chair of the Nevada Gourd Society, Webmaster of the Nevada Gourd Society, and Director of the Pahrump Valley Gourd Patch. She is a certified Gare instructor and over the years she has experimented with a variety of artistic design techniques, painting on canvas, wood, and ceramics. For the past 12 years she has concentrated on her gourd art and teaching classes for those who want to learn her techniques.
