Class description


This class is value packed with tricks on how to make gorgeous, artistic, palm sheath baskets. All supplies will be provided to make 2 baskets within the half day class. Embellishments will include philodendron sheaths, seed stems, jacaranda seed pods and other items collected on Hawaii island by your teacher. Students will learn a folding technique as well as a demonstration of mounting sheaths to blocks for elegant works of art.


Your teacher will provide palm sheaths, thread, needles, embellishments.


What you are required to bring


Each student is required to bring the following items to class:

  • Scissors that can cut through leather consistency
  • Any personal embellishments you want to incorporate

About the instructor


Jelena Clay is originally from Saratoga, CA and relocated to the islands over 30 years ago. She is a nationally recognized Gourd and Fiber Artist and has a deep knowledge of the Hawaiian arts. She is the owner of Banyan Gallery located in Hilo town and has her work represented by Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
